at her cleaning appointmentso we scheduled our appointment at another date to do the filling. i was a little nervous. i wasn't quite sure how she would handle the whole shot thing and being forced to lay there with her mouth open as they do all the drilling and stuff. well, the day came and we went to our appointment. she was excited to go. she obviously had no idea what was ahead for she had such a good experience the first time with her cleaning. well, i just have to say this pedatric dental office is REALLY good... they cater so well to the kids.. it's amazing! everthing from the way they talk and interact with them to offering fun things like headphones to listen to music to or handheld video games to play with to giving away a whole slew of prizes just makes a trip to the dentist just a little bit more enjoyable. overall, addison did great (other than the yelp she did as they gave her the shot to numb her)... the hygenists and dentsits there just loved her and thought she was such a little doll. she listened to a princess cd on headphones and they made her extra comfy in her chair and they explained every single detail to her. the only part that i felt a little uneasy about was the laughing gas or nitrous oxide that they gave her. i underdstand it's to put her more at ease. but for some reason i don't like seeing kids so loopy. she wasn't overly loopy, but i could tell she was in an altered state. anyway, the poor thing survived... but it took a toll on her. she cried in the car on the way home and said that she wants her tooth to be back to normal. :( the one thing too about afterwards is that the dentist said that she will most definitely try and bite on her cheek and lip and could do some real damage if we don't keep a very close eye on her. since she is so numb she has no clue that she is hurting herself. and yes, we did catch her chewing on her bottom lip. so we did what they recommended and had her bite down on gauze all morning to distract her from biting herself. anyway, by afternoon everything was better... except she did indeed end up with a puffy lip from her biting herself. thank goodness that is over... i pray that we don't have to do this again too soon!
