first filling

addison had her first dental cleaning a few weeks ago. she was a champ. everything went great except for they found one cavity. i was actually anticipating more so i was somewhat pleased with hearing that she just had one.

at her cleaning appointment

so we scheduled our appointment at another date to do the filling. i was a little nervous. i wasn't quite sure how she would handle the whole shot thing and being forced to lay there with her mouth open as they do all the drilling and stuff. well, the day came and we went to our appointment. she was excited to go. she obviously had no idea what was ahead for she had such a good experience the first time with her cleaning. well, i just have to say this pedatric dental office is REALLY good... they cater so well to the kids.. it's amazing! everthing from the way they talk and interact with them to offering fun things like headphones to listen to music to or handheld video games to play with to giving away a whole slew of prizes just makes a trip to the dentist just a little bit more enjoyable. overall, addison did great (other than the yelp she did as they gave her the shot to numb her)... the hygenists and dentsits there just loved her and thought she was such a little doll. she listened to a princess cd on headphones and they made her extra comfy in her chair and they explained every single detail to her. the only part that i felt a little uneasy about was the laughing gas or nitrous oxide that they gave her. i underdstand it's to put her more at ease. but for some reason i don't like seeing kids so loopy. she wasn't overly loopy, but i could tell she was in an altered state. anyway, the poor thing survived... but it took a toll on her. she cried in the car on the way home and said that she wants her tooth to be back to normal. :( the one thing too about afterwards is that the dentist said that she will most definitely try and bite on her cheek and lip and could do some real damage if we don't keep a very close eye on her. since she is so numb she has no clue that she is hurting herself. and yes, we did catch her chewing on her bottom lip. so we did what they recommended and had her bite down on gauze all morning to distract her from biting herself. anyway, by afternoon everything was better... except she did indeed end up with a puffy lip from her biting herself. thank goodness that is over... i pray that we don't have to do this again too soon!

the poor thing!

bed-wetting

addison has been potty-trained since this past summer. and she has been great about making it to the toilet when she's awake. she rarely, almost never, has accidents during the day. but we are still struggling with night time. she continues to wear pull-ups at night and at naps to prevent wetting her bed. sometimes she keeps them dry and we celebrate, high-five, hug, kiss, do flips (not really)etc. but a lot of the time, we wake up to a soggy pull-up. i know i shouldn't get too worked up about it. she IS just a young 3 year old. but after months of this happening, it's starting to get frustrating for me. why should i care so much? it's not like it's a reflection of my parenting. and i am most certain she doesn't have bodily control over it. she doesn't even know when it happens when i ask her about it. i guess she is sleeping so hard and so soundly that it doesn't even wake her up. :( we've stopped giving her liquids after 6pm and we always go potty before bedtime. i don't know what else to do. the next plan of action (suggested by a friend) was to just let her wear regular underwear at night and wet the bed so that she'll learn that it's not a fun feeling. but that means i have to (God forbid!) get up and change the sheets! this plan is left as a last resort because well, i'm just lazy (especially at like 3 a.m.)! so, in the meantime, i know i shouldn't get upset about it or seem disappointed about it. but it was starting to wear on my patience a little after having discussion after discussion EVERY day about not peeing in her nighttime underwear. hmmm. just another part of parenting. hopefully, it's just a matter of time that she grows out of this... because i don't think they make pull-ups for teenagers! :)

the evidence. soggy city in the trash... :(

my girl's growing up

i was telling someone recently that i really do think that addison's age right now at this moment (age 3) is my favorite age. she is so communicative and expressive and so honest and pure. she says things from the heart. i look at her now and think to myself, "wow, she is really growing up!" and it's hard for me to believe that this is the same little tiny baby from not that long ago.

it must be all this valentine's day talk that they've been talking at school. but just this past week, she said out of the blue, "mommy, you make my heart happy." i melted. :)

i am so glad to be where we are with addison... and where i am in my role as being a mother. because as we prepare for baby#2 (i'm about 14 weeks along), i realize that i don't think i would have been ready a year ago to be pregnant. thank goodness we waited until we were all ready.

i've been lagging on new pictures lately. the weather has been so yucky and it's just no fun to take pictures when it's too cold outside. but i will try and get going with some new ones. :)
